Coaching in Vancouver: How to Choose the Right Coach for Your Business, Health and Leadership
By Dai Manuel · Updated November 1, 2026
How to choose a coach in Vancouver: what coaching should cover, what it costs here, coach versus consultant versus peer group, in person or online, and how working with Dai runs.

Coaching in Vancouver, done well, means one person helping you run your business, your health and your leadership as one job, because you are the one carrying all three. I coach founders, owners and executives in person in Vancouver and online across Canada. I have coached professionally since 1995, I was COO of Fitness Town as it grew from three to eight locations, and I co-own CrossFit BC in Vancouver with my wife, Christie.
Key takeaways
Key takeaway
- Choose a Vancouver coach by what is stuck: your business, your health or your leadership. Most published rates sit between $125 and $350 CAD an hour, but senior leaders usually buy monthly retainers. Dai coaches all three together, from $2,500 CAD a month, starting with a free 20-minute call.
This guide is for the Vancouver owner or leader who has started searching for a coach and found a wall of options with very little to compare them on. It covers what a coach should help with, what coaching costs here, how coaching compares with consultants and CEO peer groups, whether to meet in person or online, and how working with me runs.
What should a coach in Vancouver help you with?
Most people don't hire a coach for one neat problem. They hire one because several things are going sideways at once and they have stopped trusting their own read on it.
The three areas I see most often:
- The business. Growth that has outrun the people running it, a calendar with no room to think, decisions that keep landing back on your desk.
- Your health. Sleep that has slipped, training that stopped, energy that runs out by mid-afternoon. For an owner, this is usually a business problem showing up somewhere else.
- Your leadership. How you run the Monday meeting, who you have stopped developing, and what your team has learned to bring you instead of solving themselves.
Plenty of coaches pick one of these. I work on all three together, because a bad quarter shows up in your sleep, and poor sleep shows up in how you lead. If you want the business side in depth, read the business coaching guide. If the health side is louder right now, start with the executive health guide.
How much does coaching cost in Vancouver?
Average fee for a one-hour coaching session, 2022 (US$)
US$
| Condition | Value |
|---|---|
| Global average | 244 |
| North America | 272 |
Vancouver executive coaches who publish their rates mostly list $125 to $350 CAD an hour. I checked coach profiles on Noomii, a coaching directory, on 26 October 2026. It is a small, self-reported sample, so treat it as a feel for the market.
The wider benchmark is the International Coaching Federation's Global Coaching Study. The 2023 edition, reporting 2022 data, put the average fee for a one-hour session at US$244 globally and US$272 in North America. Coaches who mainly work with executives charged the most.
Few coaches who work with senior leaders sell single hours, though. You will usually be offered a monthly retainer or a three to six month package. My private coaching starts from $2,500 CAD a month, with a three-month minimum, plus applicable taxes. The full breakdown of pricing models, and what to ask before you sign, is in how much an executive coach costs in Vancouver.
Coach, consultant or CEO peer group?
Vancouver owners have three main kinds of outside help, and they solve different problems.
| One-to-one coaching | Consulting | CEO peer group | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best when | You are the bottleneck, or the pressure is reaching your health and home | You have a defined, technical problem | You want perspective from other owners |
| Who does the work | You, with structure and accountability | Mostly the consultant | You, with input from the group |
| Typical cost model | Monthly retainer or fixed-term package | Project fee, day rate or retainer | Annual membership, often with an initiation fee |
| Eligibility | Fit | Budget | Often revenue, role, headcount or age rules |
The peer groups with a presence in Vancouver include Vistage (formerly TEC Canada), EO and YPO. Each sets its own entry rules and publishes different amounts of pricing. I compare them in detail, using what each publishes, in business coach, consultant or peer group. A peer group and a coach often work well together.
Should you meet a coach in person or online?
Both work. The question is what you need from the room.
In person suits the early sessions, the hard conversations and anyone who thinks better away from a screen. Online suits a full calendar, travel and leaders outside the Lower Mainland. I set out the trade-offs in in-person versus online executive coaching.
Why does health belong in business coaching?
Because the same person runs both, and the business usually wins the argument. Owners give up sleep, training and meals first, then wonder why decisions feel heavier.
I am not a doctor or a therapist, and coaching is not medical or mental health care. If something belongs with a clinician, I will say so. What I can do is help you build a week where your health is protected the way you protect payroll. How does coaching with Dai work?
It starts small, so you can judge fit before you commit.
- A free 20-minute call. We talk about what is going on and whether I am the right person.
- Optional: a one-hour working session for $300 CAD. One problem, one hour, a clear next move. If you go ahead with private coaching, the $300 is credited toward your first month.
- Private coaching. From $2,500 CAD a month, three-month minimum, plus applicable taxes. We agree the cadence together, in person in Vancouver or online, with support between sessions.
You can book the working session or start private coaching on the Vancouver coaching booking page. The details are on the private coaching page.
Who is coaching with Dai not for?
I would rather tell you now than three months in.
- You want someone to run the business for you. That is consulting, or a hire.
- You want a therapist. I will point you to one.
- You want a quick fix for a single week. Coaching changes how you operate, and that takes months.
- You are not willing to look at your own part in what is stuck. Most of the useful work is there.
If none of that put you off, book the free call and we will find out quickly whether this fits.
