HYROX Affiliation Cost and Payback for Small Gyms in Canada
By Dai Manuel · Updated October 11, 2026
HYROX doesn't publish its Training Club fee. Here is what affiliation includes, what equipment you need, how to work out payback, and how an independent competes with GoodLife and Movati.

HYROX does not publish what a Training Club affiliation costs. You see the price when you apply, and the one figure in the trade press is about $130 a month, reported by a US gym owner in October 2025. The fee is rarely what decides it. Equipment, floor space and whether you can fill a class are what make HYROX pay for a small gym, or quietly drain it.
Key takeaways
Key takeaways
- HYROX does not publish its Training Club fee; one US owner reported $130 a month in 2025. The term is 12 months, auto-renewing unless cancelled 60 days before the end.
- Affiliation buys the name, a Training Club Finder listing, weekly programming and a free coach course.
- SkiErgs, sleds and a winter-proof run plan are the usual gaps for a CrossFit box.
- Work out payback on net new members only; at the example numbers, about 10 new members cover year one.
- US owners report everything from 50 new members to none; the winners treated HYROX as its own product.
- You can run hybrid racing classes without affiliating, but HYROX's brand guidelines bar using its branding to advertise non-HYROX classes.
I'm training for a HYROX race in December, and my gym, CrossFit BC in Vancouver, runs HYROX classes and a HYROX bootcamp. Here is how I would decide whether a small Canadian gym should affiliate, using numbers you can check.
How fast is HYROX growing?
HYROX race participants by season (reported)
million participants
| Condition | Value |
|---|---|
| 2025 (reported) | 1.2 |
| 2025/26 season (reported) | 1.5 |
| 2026/27 season (target) | 2 |
Fast enough that it is worth a serious look.
- Morning Chalk Up reported in December 2024 that HYROX had passed 5,000 Training Clubs worldwide, with more than 2,300 new affiliates in 2024 and club numbers up 260% year on year.
- Morning Chalk Up reported over 1.2 million race participants in 2025, across 85 cities in 30+ countries.
- Endurance.biz reported in July 2026 that the 2025/26 season had over 1.5 million participants, and that HYROX is targeting more than 2 million athletes across 107 race weekends on six continents for 2026/27.
Those are company-driven figures repeated by trade outlets, not audited numbers. The direction is clear anyway.
Where can Canadians race HYROX?
Canada now has three race weekends, which matters because a nearby race gives your members a date to train for.
| Race | Dates | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| HYROX Toronto | 1 to 4 October 2026 | Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place |
| HYROX Vancouver | 17 to 20 December 2026 | Vancouver Convention Centre |
| HYROX Ottawa | 21 to 25 April 2027 | Venue to be announced |
A race within driving distance turns "HYROX class" into "eight-week build to Ottawa", which is a much easier thing to sell.
What does HYROX affiliation cost?
The official HYROX365 Training Club page does not list a price. During sign-up you pick monthly or yearly payment, and the agreement runs for 12 months and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 60 days before the end of the term. Put that cancellation date in your calendar the day you sign.
The only public number I could find is in Emily Beers' October 2025 Morning Chalk Up piece, where Phil Forrester of Rock City Complete Fitness in Arkansas says it cost $130 a month to become an official Training Club. The article does not say whether that was US dollars, though the gym is in the US. Treat it as one owner's figure, and expect your quote to depend on region and timing.
For context, Health Club Management reported in December 2024 that HYROX's higher tier, the HYROX Performance Centre, cost US$295 a month on a three-year minimum, needed 160 to 200 square metres of usable floor and an estimated US$150,000 to US$220,000 in equipment. That tier is for dedicated HYROX facilities. A small gym is looking at the Training Club.
What does a HYROX Training Club get you?
According to HYROX365's Training Club page, affiliation includes:
- The right to offer HYROX group classes and use the "TRAINING CLUB" title in your gym name and marketing.
- Use of HYROX and HYROX365 names, branding and logos under its brand guidelines.
- A listing on the official Training Club Finder, which is where racers look for somewhere to train.
- A weekly group training program, plus access to the Performance Hub (workout builder, 13-week progressive tracks, a workout archive and marketing materials).
- Free access to the "Foundation Level" coaching course for all your coaches.
- The right to run in-house events and benchmark workouts, which HYROX says are not official HYROX events.
The page says "Any kind of gym is suitable." It does not publish minimum space or equipment rules for a Training Club.
The honest summary: you are buying the name, the finder listing and ready-made programming. If you already have a coach who can write good race-specific training, most of the value is the name and the listing.
What equipment and space do you need for HYROX classes?
Work back from the race. HYROX's own race page lists eight 1 km runs, each followed by a station:
| Station | Race distance or reps | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| SkiErg | 1,000 m | SkiErgs |
| Sled push | 50 m | Sled and a lane |
| Sled pull | 50 m | Sled, rope and a lane |
| Burpee broad jumps | 80 m | Floor length |
| Rowing | 1,000 m | Rowers |
| Farmers carry | 200 m | Kettlebells (2×16 kg to 2×32 kg by division) |
| Sandbag lunges | 100 m | Sandbags (10 kg to 30 kg by division) |
| Wall balls | 100 reps | Wall balls (4 kg to 9 kg) and targets |
A CrossFit box usually has rowers, kettlebells, wall balls and some sandbags. The gaps are usually SkiErgs and sleds, and John Weeks of Tough Temple named exactly those (plus sandbags) as the big purchases in the Morning Chalk Up piece.
Space is the harder constraint. A sled needs a lane on a surface that will not get destroyed, and a class of 12 needs several lanes or a smart rotation. Then there is the run. Think about where your members run 1 km repeats in January in Ottawa or in the rain in Vancouver. A safe outdoor loop, a treadmill bank or a runner-friendly hallway is part of the equipment list, and in a Canadian winter it is the part most owners forget.
How do you work out HYROX payback?
Example HYROX payback: members needed to break even (illustrative numbers)
members
| Condition | Value |
|---|---|
| Year one (fees, coach and equipment) | 10 |
| After equipment is paid off | 6 |
Do this before you sign. The numbers below are illustrative examples only, not CrossFit BC's figures and not HYROX's prices. Replace every one with your own quotes.
| Example input | Example value (CAD) |
|---|---|
| Affiliation fee | $180 a month |
| One-off equipment (2 SkiErgs, 2 sleds, sandbags) | $9,000 |
| Coach cost for HYROX classes | $1,000 a month |
| Membership price for a new HYROX member | $200 a month |
| Months to recover equipment | 12 |
Step 1: monthly fixed cost. $180 + $1,000 = $1,180.
Step 2: add equipment spread over your recovery period. $9,000 / 12 = $750 a month. Total: $1,930 a month in year one.
Step 3: divide by membership price. $1,930 / $200 = about 10 net new members needed to break even in year one.
Step 4: after equipment is paid off, you need about 6 ($1,180 / $200).
Two rules matter more than the arithmetic. First, only count net new members. A current member who moves from CrossFit classes to HYROX classes adds nothing unless they upgrade. Second, assume some churn: if your HYROX members stay four months on average, you have to keep replacing them to stay above break-even.
If ten net new members in year one sounds hard in your market, that is your answer.
Why do some gyms love HYROX and others quit?
New members attributed to HYROX, four US gyms (owner-reported)
members
| Condition | Value |
|---|---|
| Tough Temple (at least) | 50 |
| Rock City Complete Fitness | 15 |
| CrossFit Falcon View (not affiliated) | 2 |
| Brandywine CrossFit | 0 |
The same Morning Chalk Up article interviewed four US owners with very different results:
- John Weeks of Tough Temple in Maryland estimated at least 50 new members had joined for HYROX, and warned against treating it as a lighter version of CrossFit.
- Phil Forrester of Rock City Complete Fitness said HYROX brought 15 new members and about 10% of revenue after four and a half months.
- Luke Waltman of Brandywine CrossFit in Pennsylvania watched HYROX class sizes shrink, could not recall a single member who joined for it, and de-affiliated after a year.
- Jodi Walter of CrossFit Falcon View in Colorado runs HYROX classes without affiliating, gained two members, and said it had not been a good business decision, though she keeps the classes for members who like them.
Four owners is a set of anecdotes, not a study. The pattern still matches what I would expect. The gyms that won treated HYROX as its own product with its own coaching, marketing and race calendar. The one that quit saw demand fade once the novelty wore off. What separates them is mostly demand in their market and whether someone owns the program.
How can an independent gym compete with GoodLife and Movati?
The big chains are in. GoodLife has a HYROX Training Club page offering four class formats (Foundational, Complete, Power and Engine). Movati announced in June 2026 that four more Ontario clubs had been certified, adding to five Ottawa clubs certified that January, for nine in Ontario. Movati lists sled lanes, turf and recovery amenities such as saunas and pools.
You will not beat a big-box club on equipment, square footage or price. You compete on what they struggle to do at scale:
- Coaching ratio. A small class with a coach who knows each athlete's run pace and weak stations is worth more to a serious racer than a bigger room.
- A race plan. Build blocks around Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa dates, with a benchmark at the start and a simulation before race week.
- Community on race day. Travel together, cheer together, film each other's wall balls.
- Specialisation. Doubles and relay teams, masters athletes, first-timers. Pick one group and own it.
If your gym is a CrossFit box, you also have members who already sled push, row and do wall balls. HYROX can be a second front door for runners and gym-goers who would never walk into a CrossFit class.
Can you run HYROX-style classes without affiliating?
You can run hybrid fitness racing classes. What you cannot safely do is use the HYROX name to sell them.
HYROX's brand guidelines say the trademark may only be used as authorised in the official licensing agreement, and give "using HYROX branding in advertising for non-HYROX fitness classes" as an example of unauthorised use. The guidelines also say HYROX reserves the right to act against unauthorised use of its trademarks. They do not address the phrase "HYROX-style" directly, and they warn affiliates against anything that could be mistaken for official HYROX messaging.
So if you skip affiliation, call the class something of your own, like "Race Conditioning" or "Hybrid Engine", and describe what it trains (running, sleds, ergs, carries). Do not put HYROX in the class name, logo or ads. This is general information, not legal advice; if you plan to mention the race in marketing at all, check with a trademark lawyer or ask HYROX's regional account manager, which is who the guidelines direct you to.
The trade-off is visibility. Without affiliation you are not on the Training Club Finder, and racers who search there will not find you.
| Affiliate as a Training Club | Run your own hybrid class | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | Quoted on application (one owner reported $130 a month) | None |
| Use of HYROX name and logo | Yes, within brand guidelines | No |
| Training Club Finder listing | Yes | No |
| Programming | HYROX weekly program and Performance Hub | You write it |
| Commitment | 12-month term, 60 days' notice to cancel | None |
| Best for | Gyms with space, sleds and a market of racers | Testing demand before committing |
My suggestion for most small gyms: run your own hybrid class for eight to twelve weeks first. If it fills and brings in people who are not current members, affiliate. If it does not, you have saved the fee and the contract.
What to measure before you decide
- Net new members who join specifically for the hybrid class over 12 weeks.
- Class fill rate by week. A falling line after week six is the Brandywine pattern.
- How many members say they plan to race Toronto, Vancouver or Ottawa.
- Your real equipment quote and whether your floor can take sleds.
- A safe run route or treadmill plan for November to March.

Common questions
How much does HYROX affiliation cost?
HYROX does not publish the Training Club fee on its HYROX365 affiliation page; you see it during sign-up, with a choice of monthly or yearly payment. A US gym owner told Morning Chalk Up in October 2025 that it cost $130 a month. The agreement runs 12 months and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 60 days before the term ends.
What equipment does a HYROX Training Club need?
HYROX does not publish minimum equipment for Training Clubs. To train the race properly you need SkiErgs, rowers, sleds you can push and pull over 50 m, kettlebells for farmers carries, sandbags, wall balls with targets, and somewhere to run 1 km repeats. For most CrossFit gyms the missing pieces are SkiErgs, sleds and sled lanes.
Is HYROX affiliation worth it for a small gym?
It depends on demand in your area and whether someone owns the program. US owners interviewed by Morning Chalk Up in 2025 ranged from at least 50 new members to none, with one de-affiliating after a year. Run a non-branded hybrid class for 8 to 12 weeks first, and affiliate only if it brings in net new members.
Can I call my class HYROX if I'm not affiliated?
Not safely. HYROX's brand guidelines say its trademark may only be used as authorised in the licensing agreement, and list using HYROX branding to advertise non-HYROX classes as unauthorised use. Name the class yourself and describe the training. This is general information, so check with a trademark lawyer or HYROX before using the name in any marketing.
Where are the HYROX races in Canada?
HYROX Toronto ran 1 to 4 October 2026 at the Enercare Centre. HYROX Vancouver is 17 to 20 December 2026 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, and HYROX Ottawa is scheduled for 21 to 25 April 2027, venue to be announced. Check HYROX's event pages for ticket status, as some divisions sell out.
