Winter is here so don't neglect your body’s largest organ
Hey, guys... I think your epidermis is showing. You better cover that up. It is winter after all, and you know what happens to your epidermis in cold weather…

Wait, you know what “epidermis” means, right? The top part of your largest and fastest-growing organ. No? Still not on the same page? I’m talking about your skin! Come on dudes, where’s your head at?

[box type="info" align="" class="" width=""]Did you know that the Skin is our largest organ? If fact, some adults carry some 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) and 22 square feet (2 square meters) of it.[/box]

Winter is here, and with that comes cold temperatures and dry weather. This usually leads to cracked dry skin, itchiness and irritation. As winter progresses, your skin ends up looking more like the flakes of snow falling outside than the smooth glacial ice of the Antarctic.

Guys, you’ve got to protect your body’s coat during the winter months, unless you want your largest external organ to look like the drought-ridden cracked plains of the Namib desert. You may not be showing much skin during the winter months, but in case you get lucky, here're some quick tips to keep your skin moist and supple during the freezing, dry months.

3 Manly Tips for Keeping Your Largest Organ Moist and Supple during the Dry-cold Winter Months

1. Moisturize

This is the most obvious advice to follow if you’re keen on keeping your skin, well, moist. Now is not the time to start complaining how real men don’t moisturize. It’s like saying you don’t need chalk when doing muscle ups. Just like the chalk is a preventative measure taken so that you don’t rip your skin to shreds, rubbing a good lotion on your skin allows it to retain moisture throughout the day. This means fewer wrinkles and fuller looking, healthy skin.

You can use products like Dove Care Lotion and Vaseline Repairing Lotion for your entire body, or just the money maker. Using these products is a great way to keep your skin plump and moist as it absorbs fast and lasts the entire day.

And please gents, don’t forget about your lips! Nothing is worse than leaning into your lady for a quick peck on chapped lips resembling a snake’s shed skin. Try Vaseline Men Lip Therapy to avoid your lady from experiencing sandpaper kisses under the mistletoe.

2. Wear sunscreen

“It’s cold, so there’s no need for sunscreen” - were the last words of the guy who now resembles a tomato. Listen, just because it’s cold it doesn’t mean the sun has disappeared. Even though you may be on vacation, that great ball of fire in the sky doesn’t go on winter leave. If you like to hit the slopes, remember that the glare from the snow can be as harmful (or even more so) as direct sunlight in summer. So, slather on the sunscreen to keep your skin satiated.

3. Hydrate and use dry spray

Layers - that’s the one word that comes to mind when I think of winter. Thermal underwear, topped with long johns, add a vest and jersey and top it off with a jacket, scarf, and beanie. All these layers are more than necessary when you’re frolicking about in the snow, but when you’re indoors or riding around in the car, bus or subway it gets pretty toasty!

All the doctor ordered was some sun and vitamin sea

Your body will try to fight this excessive warmth the best way it knows how - through sweating. A little bit of sweat is okay to maintain a consistent temperature, but unwarranted perspiration can lead to rashes and dehydration. So drink loads of water to keep hydrated, lukewarm is probably the best bet. And use dry spray deodorant, like Degree.

Dry spray deodorant or antiperspirants are also great for exercising in cold weather. If you don’t keep dry, you may not only experience rashes, but the damp conditions could cause bacteria to spread leading to unpleasant odors materializing from your armpits. Not fun. Degree antiperspirants use special microcapsules. Friction from body movement triggers those capsules to break and release bursts of freshness. Trust me, you’re going to smell great and feel a lot better if you use antiperspirant.
